|SUPPORTING OUR SCHOOL|
On Wednesday 26th February, the sun finally made an appearance to welcome twelve local schools and over 400 runners for the 40th anniversary of the Walhampton Perry Dalziell Cross Country.
The event was started in 1980 by Mr Clive Perry, Head of Sport at Walhampton, and Mr Robert Dalziell, Deputy Head and sports teacher at Pennington Junior School, old school friends who had also been to teacher training college together. They decided to hold an inter-school cross country event between the two schools. Word spread and it grew from there to be the large event it is today. Mr Perry and Mr Dalziell are delighted that the event is still going strong and in the spirit that it was started - a fun event where each runner counts as the results are based on points per place, so the lowest scoring team wins.
Once again support from the parents was wonderful as the intrepid runners from Years 4,5 & 6 made their way around a still very soggy course. There was exceptional effort displayed by all the Walhampton runners and wins for Walhampton thanks to Connor G, Esther M and Cassius M.
We were especially pleased that the original founders, Mr Robert Dalziell and Mr Clive Perry, were able to join us for this special anniversary event and certificates bearing their signatures were issued to the winners and all participants.
We are grateful to all the schools who have continually supported the competition over the last 40 years. Long may it continue!
