On Founder's Day, July 2021, the school officially said Farewell to our much loved deputy head, Mike Stanley:
Jonny Timms said, "Today we celebrate Mike Stanley’s appointment as Head of Forres Sandle Manor school from September. Mike has served the School for over 17 years. This place certainly inspires loyalty. One of the first things I felt palpably during my lead-in period was the school’s genuine commitment to an education which values kindness, generosity, tolerance, integrity and friendship. And nobody embodies this aspect of the Walhampton story better than Mike. His strong pastoral instincts and dedication to Walhampton has been central to its development in recent years."
Mike was presented with a mini oak tree, representing the one that has been planted in the grounds in Mike's honour.
The following poem was read out:
Mike Stanley Leaving Poem
Mike our Deputy Head, colleague and friend,
Sadly your days at Walhampton are coming to an end.
You’re admired by so many, pupils and parents too,
Children at the heart of everything you do.
An inspirational teacher, passionate is your way,
Reflected in your results, you’re the King of grade A!
History is loved by you and now by all,
Shown by the amazing display in the front hall.
You’re constantly busy and we’re all agreed,
You can pass through the office at lightning speed!
You leave a draught in your wake, drop paper on the floor,
A man with boundless energy - that’s for sure!
A dynamic teacher, the most competitive we know,
50 runs at staff cricket, you celebrated like a pro!
Our Quidditch school champion, you introduced the game,
Head of HP could be your new name.
Passionate about Potter for a number of years,
You’re known to guzzle back those butterbeers!
The sorting hat at Christmas dinner plus a song to rehearse,
We awaited getting stitched up on the final verse.
When you’re not busy trying to make us sing,
You’re finding a double entendre in everything!
Any formal event, you whisper an aside and smile,
It sets Jane off giggling for a while!
Mike, we have to mention your voice volume,
You keep children awake AND interested in your classroom!
We’re sure your RS lessons can be heard from space.
And let’s not even mention Weymouth’s Dragon boat race.
A walking encyclopaedia, your knowledge is vast,
From capital cities of the world, to pupils of our past.
Handwriting not your strong point, it could be much better,
No wonder Vicky is a pro at translating every letter!
So to a hardworking man with the biggest heart,
Your commitment and enthusiasm set you apart.
You’re kind, crazy and cheeky but always sincere,
Our work won’t be the same without you here.
The very best of luck, please stay in touch,
Walhampton will miss you ever so much.
Your headship awaits, onto pastures new,
“You’re a wizard, Mike,” … we believe in you!
Alumni messages have been flooding in:

Very many congratulations on your Headship at FSM. You will be sorely missed at Walhampton.
Thank you for everything you did for the boys. You’re a true inspiration and will be a hard act to follow.
Wishing you all the very best in your new post. Hope they realise how lucky they are!
I cannot imagine visiting Walhampton, either when visiting past colleagues or watching grandsons playing matches, without being greeted by your ever so cheery and welcoming greeting. Forres is a very fortunate school to have found you. Wishing you, Paz, Pia and Krushav the very happiest of times there. Xxxxx
I’m truly delighted for you Mike! Very well deserved and you will be sorely missed at Walhampton. All the very best to you as you embark on the next chapter with FSM. Very Many Congratulations!
Mike, you were a fantastic teacher to me and an even better rugby and cricket coach. I will take the lessons you gave with me everywhere I go and I will certainly never forget end of terms watching Shrek! I wish you best of luck at FSM, where I am certain you will do fabulously. I only ask you make sure Walhampton can still beat them in at least 1 sporting fixture every year.
Hi Mr Stanley. It's rather strange to remember you joining Walhampton when I was about 9 years old or so - I can't quite believe it's been 16 years already! I will always be very grateful for your support in my last few years at Walhampton, you certainly added to my very fond memories of the school whilst piquing my interest in History too! I wish you all the very best for the future. I look forward to seeing you on 4th July, COVID permitting.
Desperately trying to think of something witty or even profound. But no! Guess it’s best to leave that to those beholden of an easier way with words. Thank you for the time you have given to us, as teacher and friend. Wishing you all the success you deserve. Much love xxx
Happy memories of your speed. enthusiasm, attention to detail and not forgetting your cheerful smile!
Best wishes for your new adventure as Head Master at Forres Sandle Manor. Keep smiling!
All that's left to say is.... Welcome to the Alumni Community Mike Stanley! We hope to see your cheery smile at many a future event!
