Walhampton's chapel service, commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Arnhem, attracted significant interest by the media.
Pupils, parents and staff, led by headmaster Titus Mills, make an annual piligrimage to Arnhem each September to gain a deep understanding of what happened in the Battle. Every year, Walhampton pupils prepare a talk on one of the soldiers buried in the cemetery in Arnhem. We huddle together, alongside the gravestone, and learn about that young man’s life and death. We plant a cross, lay flowers and pay our respects.
It’s why we make this journey. To keep these stories alive. Walhampton is the only school in the UK doing this.
This year was the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Arnhem and we held our annual service at the school in September. This time the inclement weather meant we weren't in our beautiful Garden of Remembrance but the message and service was just as powerful in our Chapel instead. Here are some of highlights of the coverage of the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Arnhem by Meridian ITV News and BBC South Today.
