Woody Edmiston (W 1984-1989) founder of Pure Balance Retreats

Woody tells us about his life since leaving Walhampton, being a personal trainer and yoga practitioner, and what led him to set up his well-being company.

My professional career began in the fitness industry as a Personal Trainer and Sports Therapist, with a large local client base. Clients included double Olympic silver medalist and fellow Walhampton alumni, Nick Rogers, and England 7’s player, Sam Showering (Hordle Walhampton). I was part of the fitness team for the GBR America’s Cup Challenge in Auckland in 2003. From there I began to sail professionally and combined both careers.

In 2009 I began representing the family business Edmiston as well as a career yacht racing.

Having experienced a number of mindfulness retreats and being a practitioner of yoga as well, I decided, after having been living in Ibiza for 18 months, that I would create Pure Balance Retreats.

Pure Balance Retreats was founded in 2016 and is a way of combining my knowledge as a wellness professional with my experiences in the luxury super yacht sector. PBR is not only about luxury, far from it. Through our retreats and workshops we aim to significantly raise awareness amongst children and adults on the benefits of mindfulness and alternative practices that allow us to connect with each other in a more authentic way and to live in the present.

Pure Balance Retreats are tailored to new beginnings, and as we stand on this threshold sometimes we need a little encouragement and guidance to open the right doors. Led by the most forward thinking and creative teachers in their fields, Pure Balance is a wellness experience that offers just that…a safe space where you can take time to out to reflection how you approach your own wellbeing.
